Flexible Packaging

Flexible packaging conforms to the size and shape of the packaged item. Flexible packaging helps cut down on waste by only using just enough packaging material to secure the item. Flexible packaging is used in all kinds of industries, especially in household goods and foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical and medical products. Flexible food packaging is particularly useful for multi-purpose design, such as pouches that contain frozen foods or substances that can also be microwaved. 

Flexible packaging is used to save space when storing or shipping products. Flexible plastic packaging is frequently used in transatlantic shipping applications to ensure freshness of perishable items and to minimize packing waste. A flexible packaging manufacturer may produce a wide variety of products, from multi-layer plastics to shrink wrap to custom thermoformed packages. Flexible packaging includes laminated and printed plastics or thin films that can be used to package food and beverages, healthcare products such as tablets or patches, and custom-made or tamper-resistant packaging. Custom packaging is made using thermoforming techniques to produce overwraps in a variety of functional shapes, including blister packaging, clamshells, trays, and packaging to protect fragile items.

Flexible packaging also includes packaging with special sealing capabilities. Resealable packages eliminate the need for special storage and also prevent premature spoilage. Semi-rigid bag packaging is used to provide additional storage space, allowing packages to stand up on shelves. Many large manufacturers create their own packaging designs, but for smaller companies, a consultant may be a better option.
